This morning I called Healthy 4 Life center and told them that the insurance states they have not received their referral and that the manager at the insurance company gave me her direct fax number and asked they refax the information directly to her.  The staff faxes not only the referral but also the conformation sheet from the first

This afternoon I receive a call from April my new case manager who apologized for everything that I had been thru and told me she was going to make my weekend.  She then informed me she has approved my surgery back at the University of Chicago Full and in network.  She was sending them the approval information as we spoke.

Is this for real have I finally won?

Ok I have received nothing from the insurance company in over a month.  I am fed up I call the insurance company and ask to speak to management.

The head of case management calls me back I explain all of the issues and concerns.  Also going thru all of my documentation she agrees something does not seem right.

She has assigned me a new case manager who will contact me tomorrow.  She tells me she sees they have not received anything from Healthy 4 Life stating they want me refereed back to University of Chicago, why am I not surprised here.

I had an appointment today with the surgeons of the Healthy for Life center at St Mary.

They think the insurance company is crazy and fully document why I should be sent back to the University of Chicago and that it is medically beneficial for me to have the duodenal switch procedure instead of the Roux-en-y gastric bypass.

I had an appointment today with Dr. Champsey of the Healthy for Life center at St Mary.  He listens to the entire thing I have been thru over the past year and I provide him with the documentation of everything that has been done.

He agrees the best solution for me would probably be the duodenal switch procedure which they do not do, but wants me to meet with the surgeons we set an appointment for July 11, 2011. 

In the mean time their office staff will contact my insurance case worker and see where I am in the process and what has to be done.

So the insurance company drops a bomb on us today.  As of May 1^st, they no longer cover the University of Chicago as in network since my Hospital has now opened their own Obesity Treatment Center.

I will have to start the process all over again and go see this new center and have my surgery there instead. 

I do some research and quickly discover that this center does not do the duodenal switch procedure.  Great can this insurance suck any more of my life away?
